Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si Waterfall, Luang Prabang

The start of the excursion will begin by travelling along the Mekong River by boat, leaving the city of Luang Prabang behind. As you journey to the Pak Ou Caves, take in the lush landscape dotted with villages and fishing boats along the route until you reach the famous limestone cliffs. The caves (Tham Ting and Tham Theung) are overflowing with over 4000 Buddha icons. Hop off the boat to explore one of the most significant holy sites in the whole of Lao.

Back on board, the boat will cruise downstream to a riverside village, giving you the change to meet friendly locals and find out about life living in rural Laos. At midday, head back into Luang Prabang for a traditional cookery class, where you’ll learn some local techniques and recipes before getting to sample the delicious food for yourself.

After lunch, take a guided tour by road into the countryside in search of the impressive Kuang Si Waterfall. Snap some pictures in the turquoise, pools beneath the cascading 60 metre waterfall, or climb to the top for 360 degree views over the waterfall and surrounding countryside.

On route back to Luang Prabang, visit the home of some endangered black bears at the Asiatic Black Bear Sanctuary. These bears have been rescued from the wild and the centre relies on visitors and donations to keep it open. Following this, visit the thousands of native butterflies and tropical flowers at a butterfly centre before heading back to the city to conclude the day’s experience.
