Siem Reap

General Tour

On day one, you’ll arrive at the spectacular city of Siem Reap before relaxing into your suite at the welcoming Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa. Spend the next couple of days touring the city. Taste the local Cambodian cuisines of Amok and Mee Kola and visit the local honeybees. Explore the culture and wildlife of the great Tonlé Sap Lake, before boarding an express boat, where you can dock at the famous floating village of Chong Khneas.

On the morning of day four, you will start your tour of spectacular temples at the ancient city of Angkor Thom. This city is a visual treat, surrounded by an eight meter high wall, depicting the perfect square. From here, you will continue to the Bayon Temple in the middle of Siem Reap. This 12th century masterpiece is a splendorous sight to behold and was once the state temple of King Jayavarman VII. A mountain temple, built to represent Mount Meru, you can teach the children about Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. Spend the afternoon at your own leisure.

After a relaxing sleep, you will delve into the atmospheric ruins of Ta Prohm, known as the 'Tomb Raider Temple'. Complete with crumbling towers and walls overgrown by jungle trees and vines, Ta Prohm is one of the most picturesque of the Angkor Temples. Then, you’ll continue to the most majestic of all temples; Angkor Wat. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is unique in its grand scale and incredible detail. Take in the stunning stone carvings and vast Hindu mythology of the world’s largest religious building. Angkor Wat is detailed on Cambodia's national flag as the temple that “symbolises the soul of the Khmer people."

After a morning of symbolic culture, explore the day as you wish, perhaps sinking into some well-deserved meditation, monk chat and vegetarian cooking at The Peace Café.
