New Zealand Vacations

Having gained significant notoriety since the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed here, New Zealand has soared to the top of many travelers’ bucket lists. It offers incredibly diverse nature and unique wildlife (including the increasingly rare, but endearing Kiwi bird), as well as world-class rugby, mesmerising Maori culture, and wonderful wineries. New Zealand is also famed for its adrenaline sports and friendly locals; whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or a nature lover, there is always something for you to see on New Zealand vacations.

A relatively small island nation compared to its Australian neighbour, New Zealand never fails to wow visitors with its majestic beauty. With 4.5 million inhabitants spread over two islands roughly the size of England, there is an endless number of untouched, peaceful and spectacular regions for you to explore, including the alpine expanse of Whakarewarewa Forest, the astonishing, snow-tipped Southern Alps, and the gargantuan Franz Josef Glacier. Not forgetting the hot springs and mud pools of Kuirau Park, plus the simmering geysers and spectacular scenery of Rotorua.

However, you don’t necessarily have to trek across forests and mountains to enjoy your own New Zealand adventure. In fact, there are a whole host of unique experiences if you’re looking to get active, from zorbing down great hills and ziplining on Waiheke Island, to rafting through the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Alternatively, take a trip to the cities of Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch, to discover New Zealand’s extraordinary culture first hand.

It was travelling around New Zealand, with its stunning landscapes, that inspired me to study photography. I’m also an adrenaline junkie and will never forget sky diving, bungee jumping, white water rafting and ziplining through the pitch black Waitomo Glowworm Caves.

Places to go in New Zealand

With buzzy Auckland at the top end and mesmerising natural scenery such as the Coromandel Peninsula, the North Island is a great destination for a bit of city life in combination with an escape to nature. Centrally located Rotorua is the best place to experience the fascinating Māori culture with the fascinating subterranean phenomena such as boiling mud and steamy geysers. And don’t miss Hawke’s Bay for its phenomenal wines and Art Deco architecture. With the Southern Alps lining the west coast of the South Island, Fiordland in the south with the magnificent Milford Sound and Marlborough with its jaw-dropping headlands and fabulous wines, this island will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. Queenstown and closely located Wanaka are where you want to go if you are up for some adventure and Christchurch on the east coast of the island is definitely worth a visit to witness how a city rebuilds itself from scratch after the massive earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
