Moon Valley & Death Valley adventure, Atacama Desert
What better way to delve into the depths of the Chilean landscape and really get back to nature, than with this half day adventure to the impressive Death Valley and mystical Moon Valley.
You’ll start with a visit to the spectacular Death Valley or “Valle de la Muerte.” Striking salt formations and swirling sand sculptures border the rocky slopes and smooth dunes that lay in this intriguing area. Once a lake, the level layers of sediment still offer hints to its former past, whilst the natural elements of wind and rain beating and howling upon this marvellous miracle of nature have carved the most peculiar formations from sand and clay.
Once you’ve had your fill of extraordinary sights in this ig valley, you’ll continue on with your journey and arrive at one of the best-known destinations in the whole of the Atacama Desert: The Moon Valley, also known as the “Valle de la Luna”. Setting foot into such magical surroundings at dusk, you’ll watch in awe as incomparable beauty abounds in every corner of this truly breathtaking lunar landscape.
Dry lakes are dotted all around, and bright colours of greens, blues, reds and yellows provide spots of alluring contrast against the bright white salt mantle, in this surprisingly colourful geological landscape. As you make your way past the bizarre natural rock formations and endless salt sculptures, you will pass by the famous “Tres Marías” and finish up at the Piedra del Coyote, known as “Coyote´s rock.”
From the top of this rugged rock, you’ll marvel at the awe-inspiring views that overlook the Kari-Canyon and widest parts of this vast desert. From way up high, you can even catch a glimpse at the Salar de Atacama. Take in a glittering sunset, marvelling in yet more incandescent beauty as red, gold and purple flecks flicker on the horizon.
